A New Year's Resolution

After a very crazy holiday season (thank you!), I have only one New Year's resolution (from a girl who only really resolves not to make resolutions...but this one will be workable...and good!): commit to the blog. So now that it's been keyed in, over the next coming weeks expect a few changes to our blog: inspiration (without the perspiration), what's going on at market and in store, new trends, how to make your home's style your own (without a lot of hype and fuss), and a few thoughts (and photos!) to help pull it all together along the way. So here's to 2008, the year of new beginnings...and a very Happy New Year to you!

Something new, something very cool...

You'll hear me talk about inspiration...probably too much!...because without it I think our store would be no different than every other store where it's all been "seen" and very done! So, got a new shipment yesterday, and, yes, we're inspired! We just received these amazingly cool melamine plates--for serving, for dinner, for whatever--designed by students out of a nationally known design school out of Savannah GA. We love that they're so great looking...we love that they can be used on their own or as a very stylish way to "mix it up" with what you already have...and there's nothing we love better than great design...and we also like the fact that we're supporting a local design work/effort (especially when it can be packed in a picnic basket for an outdoor concert or taken out for your next party and everyone thinks, "Wow, where can I get those?").

A little self promotion...

It’s time for Atlanta Magazine’s Best of Atlanta survey! New York, New York!

Whew! Fly in...buy buy buy (dig out some GREAT new finds, wear holes in our sandals walking around so much ;-), have a little--okay, a lot!--of fun, try in vain to flag down a taxi or two, eat some great food, and make some great contacts and get inspired!)...fly out...waaaay tired!

We just got back from our a little jaunt to NY and are so excited with what we found to fill the store (and the site) for the holidays!  Wow! All I can say is: bookmark us, sign up for our email list, whatever...just make sure to keep checking in as we'll start updating the site in the coming weeks with lots of wonderful, fun, unique finds that make stylish living and gift giving just a keystroke away!

Okay, two posts in one week? We're trying...  Alright, we said that from time to time we'd give a little "scoop" through our blog, and in case you're not on our email list (or you have yet to add us to your address book and our emails are hanging out in your "suspected junk" folder), here's a little tidbit: In honor of our monthly street party known as Alive After 5, we have a special going on this weekend only! >Click here to check it out! Spring flowers and dog days...

March? Really? Really?!?!??? Has it really been that long since a post? So sorry dear blog readers...it's not that nothing has been going on, it's just that work sometimes gets in the way of blogging (ah, to be an entrepreneur...).

Lots going on at the cottage on Canton...first of all, it's Summer! Hooray! Secondly, we had a great Spring and, as you can see, updated the web site with lots of new & wonderful items for the nest (...some of these were so well loved, they were gone as quickly as they came in--it's nice when your intuition "hits"...). We plan on a lot of web updating over the summer, so visit often! And, we're plotting and planning for a great fall & winter...but no need to think about that now...it's time to think about sun, fun, and all the good times that seem to roll along with the season.

One note: We're on Summer Hours at the store. So if you're up early, we're not quite there...visit us between 11am to 5pm Tuesdays thru Saturdays for design inspiration, some funny beverage napkins for cocktail hour (hmmm, need to upload those to the site), or the perfect pair of Bedhead PJs for your summer trip! And we promise: We'll try to do a little better with our blogging! ;-)

Purple and lime and flowers—oh my!

Wow! The flowering lavender wisteria that's dripping from the trees...dogwoods in bloom...the fields of precious white flowers that have appeared at the cottage...the perfect lime green of new leaves that are just beginning their journey! We-are-inspired! There's nothing like this time of year in the South, and we're at the front of the line to kick off our winter skin as we fill with store with plants, fresh (beautiful!) finds, and a great new palette of smoky blue accents in the "entertaining" room! Come visit and see what's new (we'll be updating the website shortly...) and get INSPIRED! Even the freshest little something can bring your nest blazing into this favorite season!

What's up with the barn?

If you've been by the cottage in the last several months, you've noticed a new barn in the back. To put the many rumours and questions to rest, let me tell you a little story...

Once upon a time, a charming little barn could be found on the back lot of Olive & Fig (note: Olive & Fig is located in the Historic District of our fair Roswell-by-the-Sea). The barn was old and falling down. The City deemed that little barn was dilapidated and needed to be torn down...and then rebuilt in a fashion that was similar to other historic structures on the street. We said goodbye to the old barn and have welcomed a new barn in its place. Welcome, new barn!

Will we use the barn? Are we moving? What's up with the barn? What are we doing? Is the barn going to be part of Olive & Fig?  For now, we're good and here to stay and don't know what the future holds for the barn. But be assured that we will absolutely announce any news when there is news to announce (we promise!!!). But in the meantime, stop by the cottage...the gravel driveway is back to "normal", there's delicious coffee to be found, and LOADS of new treasures to explore (...for yourself, your home, the ones you love...)...and be sure to say hello to the new barn!
